How To Become A Professional Soccer Player

So you want to be a soccer star? Well there's a few things you need to know. First, you have to have the right shoes. It is a fact that a pair of lightweight, well designed shoes can improve your performance a lot. Also, keep yourself up to date on all the latest soccer news and tips by reading hot soccer magazines. Another important thing to do is to train with players that have a high enough skill level to challenge your skills and make you improve. Good teams and clubs can be found at high schools and university and of course at the community, city or provincial level.

In order to play well, you also have to be trained in strength training and endurance training. This is why it is not a bad idea for a team to have a general fitness trainer along with the regular soccer coach. Great excercises include pushups for the chest, situps and sprinting for the abdomenal muscles, and squats for the thighs. By spending time on individual soccer skills and perfecting them, you can improve your performance during a game a lot. The diet is also very important. Keep away from too many foods that are high in sugar, eat a lot protein, and get your fruits and vegetables.

And last but not least stay focused and dedicated mentally and make sure you love the game so you can score a GOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!

Youth Soccer Rules for the Beginner Coach

The Basic Rules

The following are some of the most commonly observed youth soccer rules, as dictated by the United States Youth Soccer Associations (USYSA) and the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). Remember that youth soccer rules can vary between leagues and age divisions, so always consult the local soccer authority for the final word on rules and regulations.

Each team is comprised of 11 players- 10 on the field and 1 in goal. According to youth soccer rules, a team is allowed a maximum of 3 substitutions during the match if it is part of an official competition. While all the players on the field must wear jerseys of the same color, the goalkeeper must wear a different colored jersey than their teammates and the referees. Most goalkeepers choose to wear a goalkeeping jersey, a pinnie or mesh training vest, or a t-shirt.

All players must wear shin guards both during practice and game play that must be covered with socks. Metal cleats are not permitted during youth soccer play. Only rubber cleats in the back of the shoe will be accepted.

A soccer match lasts 90 minutes, and is played in two halves. A team scores a goal when the entire ball has traveled across the goal line between the two posts and under the crossbar.

Hands Off

Arguably the most important rule in the game of soccer is that players are not allowed to use their hands or arms (from the tips of the finger to the shoulder) to move the ball while it is in play on the field. The sole exceptions to this rule are the goalkeepers. However, a goalkeeper may not use their hands on a pass that comes from one of their own teammates.

The 3 Kicks: Goal, Corner, and Penalty

When the ball is kicked out of bounds along one of the sidelines, a player from the opposite team gets to throw the ball onto the field at the point in which it went foul. Both feet must remain on the ground when throwing the ball in from the sidelines, and the throw must be executed overhead using both hands.

If the ball crosses the end line, a corner kick or goal kick is performed. If the offensive team was the last to touch the ball before it crossed the end line, then it is kicked in from any spot inside the goalkeeper's box, hence the name goal kick. Any player may execute the goal kick, not just the goalkeeper. If it was the defensive team that kicked the ball across the end line, it is kicked back into play from the corner nearest to where it left the field.

Penalty kicks are also a big part of youth soccer. If the defending team causes a contact foul or a hand ball within the penalty area, a penalty kick will be awarded to the offensive team. The ball is placed 12 yards away from the goal in the center, which is known as the penalty spot.

The goalkeeper must keep both feet on the goal line and all players must vacate the penalty area and remain outside until the ball is kicked. If a goal is not scored and the ball bounces back onto the field, it is still considered live, thus anyone can play it.

What You Need to Know Before You Buy New Soccer Shoes Or Cleats

So you need some new soccer shoes? Simple, or it should be, but with so much choice which ones do you go for? Remember, you can buy a great pair of cleats without spending a fortune, but it pays to do some research first. You might think that with such a huge variety of soccer cleats on the market that it's all about fashion, and whilst that certainly plays its part, there is much more to choosing the right cleats than just going for the same make and style as your favorite player.

If you are mainly playing your soccer on soft ground you should consider shoes with screw in studs. These have the advantage of providing high levels of grip, and are longer lasting. You can easily replace the studs when they wear, and you can buy studs or blades in different lengths to suit the conditions in which you are playing. The tip of the studs is often made of metal or very durable plastic and it is actually this part which is known as the 'cleat.'

If you are playing on harder surfaces, the preferred choice of soccer shoe is the firm ground type which generally have molded studs or cleats. Unlike traditional soccer boots, these do not have removable studs or blades. They provide great grip on medium hard surfaces (dry grass, for instance) and have become increasingly popular in recent years. Most major soccer shoe manufacturers now offer firm ground cleats in various styles.

If you play on very hard or artificial surfaces (such as astroturf) you should consider hard ground soccer shoes. These are easily identified by their closely molded studs which usually cover the entire sole of the shoe. Whilst they are great for hard surfaces or for playing on astroturf, hard ground boots should be avoided if you are play on softer surfaces as they will not generally provide sufficient grip.

The upper part of modern soccer shoes can be made from various materials. Some of the more expensive shoes have leather uppers, whilst less expensive varieties may be made of synthetic materials. Leather uppers will provide great comfort and are preferred by many players who appreciate the additional 'feel' on the ball that the softer surface provides. Leather soccer shoes often take some time to 'wear in', and many players prefer them to be a slightly tighter fit when new, knowing that they will quickly become more comfortable in use. Soccer cleats with leather uppers benefit from a little additional time spent in cleaning, but you don't need to treat them with dubbin, which was the traditional way of looking after your boots. Nowadays there are many sports shoe cleaners and conditioners which are much easier to use and will keep your new soccer shoes waterproof and in great shape.

The two most important factors in buying the right soccer shoes are the sole design and stud pattern and, of course, comfort. It is important to try several pairs of cleats before making your final choice. More expensive soccer shoes will likely be made of finer materials with additional styling features and they may also be slightly more comfortable when new, but if you are on a tight budget do not always discount soccer shoes which are cheaper. Most major manufacturers such as Nike, Reebok, Adidas, Umbro and Puma produce high quality cleats to suit all pockets. Before you play or train in your new boots, try wearing them around the house for a while to speed the break in process and remember to avoid concrete or other hard surfaces to minimise the wear on the studs or blades.

Good luck in buying your new cleats!

How to Choose Proper Soccer Cleats

In career of any professional or amateur soccer player, performance on the field is key factor to success. Good performance is depending on many factors. It depends on player's mental and physical straight but also depends on the good footwear. This was recognized in early days of soccer, and that is how the soccer cleats were found.

It is very important, especially for a young player to learn proper usage of soccer cleats. Because, even serious injuries can occur with wrong choice and usage of cleats. Most common injuries caused by wrong choice of cleats are on the ligaments, knees and ankles. Also not that serious but still very uncomfortable injury caused by wrong cleats is blisters on the feet.

Each type of cleats is made for different type of ground. If ground is hard than usage of cleats with rubber studs is recommended because then they don't need to penetrate too much into the ground as the ground is not slippery. On the other hand, if soccer ground is too soft, then you need to use soccer cleats with higher studs, usually made from aluminum, because they are penetrating more into the ground.

Studs on the soccer clears can be fixed or removable. Soccer cleats with removable studs are still more popular among the players because you are using the same boots and changing only studs for different type of ground that you playing on.

But still for younger players is recommended to use fixed (molded) cleats. You can play with them on almost all ground types, and in all weather condition.

Talking Soccer Drills - Trapping

Image : http://www.flickr.com

When we are talking soccer drills, there are various ways to enhance the trapping skills of the players. The coach must give his players an insight into each and every aspect associated with trapping.

Trapping helps the players stop the ball and keep it near his body within a safe distance. The player has to use various parts of his body for trapping the ball, but he cannot use his hands of course. Mainly, it is the foot, the thigh, and the chest that players use for trapping the ball.

Using The Foot

The coach must train the players to use their feet effectively to capture the ball. If you are coaching younger soccer players, you should train them to use the inside of the foot. Since the inside of the foot is the largest area of the foot, it will help them have better control of the ball.

However, if you are coaching older soccer players, you need to go for the advanced approach. You should train them to use the instep or top of the foot and both inside and outside of the foot for trapping. If the ball is uncontrollable and bouncing much higher, the players should use their shin and ankle to get control of the ball.

Using The Thigh

Using the thigh is another most effective method for trapping of ball. For this, the players should first come in front of the ball that is coming towards them. When the ball gets a bounce, you should stand on one foot and raise the thigh of the other foot to contact the ball.

As soon as the thigh meets the ball, instantly drop the knee so that the ball could stick to your thigh only. The coach must train the players how to continue dropping the knee until the ball rolls from the thigh to the feet.

Using The Chest

As you use thigh for trapping the ball, you can also use the chest the same way. However, of course, you will have to take a slightly different approach towards the ball this time. For this, the players should first come in front of the ball that is coming towards them and should push out the chest to contact the ball coming towards them.

However, you must note that we are talking soccer drills for trapping, using the chest may not be a good idea for younger players because in doing so, it is very likely that they will touch the ball with hand.

Soccer Footwear - Wearing the Right Football Boot

Image : http://www.flickr.com

There are a huge number of football boots on the market these days and deciding which ones to buy can be a daunting task. Many people make the mistake of assuming that all boots are alike when that is definitely not the case. The playing surface, weather conditions, level of comfort and the position you play should all be taken into consideration when deciding on your soccer footwear.

Wearing the right football boot is essential as this allows you to concentrate on your performance safe in the knowledge that your soccer footwear will not let you down when you need it most. An expensive pair of football boots with state of the art design will enable you to make the most of your skills although they will not make you a better player overnight.

The surface that you are going to be playing on should have a huge bearing on choosing the suitability of your footwear. For example if you are playing on a wet pitch or a surface that has medium length grass then you should avoid boots that have blades or cleats. Hard pitches where the grass has worn away can also be problematic. Short studs and cleats are the best option for this kind of surface. Blades should be avoided as they would quickly be worn down on the areas where no grass is present.

Artificial playing surfaces such as Astroturf require footwear with cleats or short blades. Boots that have long blades could cause serious injury when running, twisting or turning sharply. This is because the long blades have a tendency to stick in the surface resulting in varying degrees of damage to both the ankle and knee areas when you move.

Another factor that should be considered when choosing new football boots is the position that you play. Strikers and wingers usually prefer a lightweight shoe that will let them accelerate quickly and in some cases this means using blades. For a long time the famous Predator boot by Adidas was popular among midfielders especially those who shoot from distance. For defenders, a good grip is important and this is the main attribute they will look for when choosing their footwear.

An important consideration when buying football boots is the level of comfort they provide you with. Many boots come in a wider fitting to cater for those with bigger sized feet. It is important to remember that you will be wearing them for 90 minutes so the soccer footwear needs to be a good fit and be comfortable to wear for long periods. This advice should ensure that you are wearing the right football boot in relation to your needs.

Soccer Gear For Every Soccer Player

Choosing the right soccer gear can be a difficult chore. It doesn't matter whether you are choosing youth soccer gear, or gear for adults. It doesn't have to be painful. But with so many choices available, you need to ensure that the gear is of good quality, and will last through the soccer wars.

Buying cheap soccer gear will sometimes have you buying that same item more times. That will make it more expensive in the long run. Many times it is best to spend a little more up front and buy longer lasting gear.

With my over 30 years in soccer I have made some good choices, and some bad choices when choosing soccer gear.

I have to laugh when I look in my gear bag and see a pair of turf shoes that I have had for over 20 years. Obviously I haven't played a lot of games on turf! But they were definitely a good choice. And I can actually still wear them!

Start at the Bottom!

Soccer footwear!Whatever position you play, it doesn't matter. You could be playing as a goalie, midfielder, defender, or striker. Sneakers are not the way to go! Unless you want to continually slip around and miss the ball because you can't get your foot planted. You will never improve your soccer game that way.

Indoor or outdoors?Indoor soccer shoes are flat bottomed and made of a material that is more firm than a standard sneaker.

Outdoor soccer shoes come in models made for hard fields, firm fields, or soft / wet fields. Some have removable cleats so you do not have to buy a new pair of cleats if one or two studs wear down early.

Soccer Shin Guards! Not only do they prevent injury, they are now a mandatory piece of soccer equipment. It only makes sense. Most of the action is in that area of your body.

Soccer Socks!Soccer socks are used to hold your shin guards in place and are part of a complete soccer uniform. They used to be so plain and boring. Red, blue, green, yellow. You get the picture. But with increased interest in soccer comes increased options for colors. Can you say Fuschia soccer socks?

Soccer Shorts!Baggy shorts are not soccer shorts. They may be in-style but that does not mean that they are good for the soccer field. The less restrictive your shorts are, the better it is for your game. They also have to fit your team's uniform and take the beating that sliding, diving, and falling down will give them.

Soccer Jerseys!Your soccer jersey will express the personality of your team. And of course it should blend well with your shorts and socks. However some people want to buy replica soccer jerseys to support their favorite soccer club. Those are available for every major soccer team in the world.

Soccer Goalkeeper Gear!Outfitting a soccer goalkeeper is the same as any player on the field, with a few differences:

Goalkeepers wear shorts or long pants with padding on the hips. This padding helps prevent injuries from the numerous times that they dive for a ball during a game.
Goalkeepers wear special goalkeeper gloves to give them a better grip on the ball.
A goalie jersey usually has padding on the elbows to reduce the impact on their bodies when they land.
With all that gear, a great choice to carry it all is a soccer backpack.

I actually still have some soccer uniforms from when I was 16. Go figure?

The Useful Soccer Uniform

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The soccer uniform is used by soccer players around the world in every single training day or soccer match. It often bears the logo and color combination of a certain soccer team. Some soccer teams design their uniforms with color schemes resembling the team. The designs for the uniforms worn by soccer players are endless.

If you are trying to figure out the right pick for your football team's uniform, or are looking for new apparel for the game, you should understand that a soccer uniform is more than just a soccer jersey. Instead, it consists of the soccer jersey, the soccer shorts, and the soccer socks. These are all essentials for a soccer player to wear. They intend to identify the players when they are in the out field. Aside from that, football uniforms protect the players from the high intensity of the game. The color of the jersey for a football uniform is one thing to consider. The color may vary, since this depends primarily on the players' or teams' personal preference and taste. The color of the jersey can be taken from the town, school or country which the team is affiliated with. The name of the team must be considered too.

The soccer shorts should complement the color and design of the soccer jersey. The highly flexible and knee-high soccer socks should also match the soccer shorts and jersey. The uniforms can bear any name or logo and can be created with various colors. The materials of the clothing should also be considered since they greatly affect the durability of the uniform.

World Cup Soccer Jerseys - Our Passion Shows

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Nothing says more about your passion for soccer

For serious, dedicated soccer (football) fans, world cup soccer jerseys say it loud and clear. Maybe you wear them, and maybe you just collect them. Maybe you do both? This is my country. This is my passion. This is my love.

Seriously

Yes, we take this sport of soccer very seriously. We take it so seriously that our jersey is our most sacred possession. And how do you think we act when we can get an autograph on one? We will cherish and protect that jersey until death. But we most likely will not wear an autographed jersey.

Wear or Display?

Lots of us will wear our country's colors with pride. But some will both wear their colors and display them proudly in their home. That is why we will have several of them. What looks better in a display case in your tv room? NOTHING! And it is something that you can pass down through the generations of soccer lovers to come.

Choices

All national soccer teams that are involved in the world cup have jerseys available for their adoring fans. As the styles change, so do the offerings. There is always the home and away version. But never forget the alternate jerseys that are created. Short-sleeved and long-sleeved. Is it marketing? Of course part of it is. But we want it and that's that.

Identifiable

When someone sees you wearing your favorite jersey there is no way to mistake who you support. Your colors will say it for you. Most times loud, and always proud. It feels even better and makes you more proud when you can wear the jersey of your favorite star. Names like Beckham, Zidane, Ronaldo, and Ronaldinho come to mind.

Wherever your passion lies, show your support with one of the many world cup soccer jerseys that are out there.

Basic Soccer Rules

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Basic soccer rules are pretty simple to follow, the team that scores the most goals wins!

Each team will consist of 11 starting players of which there is one goalkeeper and 10 outfield players. The game will be played on a soccer pitch and the field dimension will normally be just over 100 yards long although it could be shorter if it is a youth soccer game.

Soccer teams are normally split into formations consisting of defence, goalkeeper and forwards. Each team will also nominate a captain although this role is not as significant as other sports such as cricket and rugby. The captain will start the game by tossing a coin with the referee and the winning captain has the option of selecting which way their team will shoot. This can be an advantage if there is a strong wind which could change direction by the time the teams reach the second half.

Soccer games consist of two halves lasting 45 minutes each although injury time is often added by the referee to cover any stoppages. If the game is a cup tie, a world cup final for example then extra time will be played consisting of an extra two 15 minute periods. If the teams are still level at this stage the game will develop into a penalty shoot with each team nominating 5 penalty kick takers who will try and beat the goalkeeper from the penalty spot (12 yards) until one team wins.

During the game the referee has the power to caution players and issue yellow and red cards. Yellow cards are issued for minor or a serious of fouls by the same player which results in a booking, however if two yellow cards are issued then this equals a red card and the offending player is sent off the field.

A straight red card can be also be issued for serious foul play or denying an opponent a goalscoring opportunity. Each team has to have a minimum of 7 players on the field so if one team have more than 5 players sent off then the game would be abandoned, this is very rare but has happened a few times in violent games!

One of the most important basic rules of soccer is the offside rule which basically prevents attacking players from gaining an unfair advantage as when a pass is made there has to be 2 opposition players closer to the goal than the attacking player. If the attacking player is level with a defender then he is still onside so play continues. The referee has two assistants (previously known as linesman) on either side of the field to help judge the offside rule.

Soccer Field Dimensions

Back in the day when soccer was in its infancy, soccer field layout was rather irregular in its dimensions and this created several problems for the players. One player from, say, York would play on a field that was 60 yards long, while the guys in Liverpool would play on one that was 140 yards. Obviously, when either team played on the competitor's field, they were at a loss.

That is why, over time, soccer field dimensions were regulated, first by the Football Association, the first soccer organization in history, created by the English in the late 19th century, then by FIFA.

Today's dimensions of soccer fields still offer some room for variation, because not all pitches can be made on a same exact perimeter. So, the width of the field can range from 50 to 100 yards officially, but it's rarely the case with modern soccer fields that they hit these extremes. The length can range from 100 yards to 130, but you can't have a pitch that would be 100 yards wide and 100 yards long, obviously.

The field is split in half by a center line, which has a symmetrical distance towards each of the widths and there is a center circle at the middle of this line, which is always 10 yards in diameter. This circle ensures that opposing players are kept at a safe distance when the team in possession kicks off.

The goal must be 24 feet wide and 8 feet high and it must be placed exactly on the middle of the pitch's width. The goal is surrounded by two boxes. The first one, called the protection box or the goalkeeper box is 6 yards wide and long and in this area, the keeper is said to be protected: any contact with the goalkeeper in this area will produce a foul for the defending team.

The bigger box, also called the penalty box or penalty area is 18 yards wide and 44 long and in this area, every foul from the defending team will produce a penalty kick, which is taken from 12 yards from the goal, with just the attacker and the goalkeeper facing off. This is usually a sure goal, so you might not want to be so aggressive around the penalty box.

Let's take a look at some of the other soccer field dimensions that aren't usually that important, but can still regulate the game a bit further. The corner circle is set around the corner flag and is 1 yard in diameter. Basically, when a player takes a corner, he can place the ball anywhere inside this circle so he can more comfortably hit the ball and give it a swirl. Otherwise, it's very difficult to keep the ball inside the soccer field dimensions if you're striking the corner from right, but with your left leg, or vice versa.

The penalty box circle is one of the soccer field dimensions that are used mostly for orientation by the referee. It's situated around the penalty spot, 10 yards around it and it's sole purpose is to allow the referee to figure out the correct wall distance in case of a free kick that's near the box. For example, if the attacking team gets a free kick outside the edge of the penalty area, the referee will automatically know that the defending team's wall should be placed at the penalty spot, which is 10 yards away, the correct distance the wall should stay in.

These soccer field dimensions are standardized for all of the modern pitches, but the game will play differently on various sized fields. For example, on a very wide pitch, wing game play is bound to be more efficient, because your wingers will have a lot more room to maneuver in. Short fields benefit players with great speed and technique that can solve a one-on-one duel in close quarters.

Long fields benefit speedy players, that love to hit the ball forward and make a run for it and they're a nightmare for defenders that lack the speed to cope with them. Longer fields also require more coordination between lines, otherwise a team might allow the opponent far more spaces than they would like to.

National Mexican Soccer Team

Even though the Mexican soccer team did not succeed in earning even just a single major cup all over their more than a third of a century's existence, they slowly and painstakingly show to the world that had already matured and have a strength and ability to reckon with. All the other contenders in the current World Cups in addition to Copa Americana can attest to it. The Mexican's passionate behavior is what transforms into a particular playing approach when they were playing in the pitch. The Mexican's spirit is a kind of enthusiasm that made them into a team to be considered.

The Mexicans viewed the success of their neighboring Latin American countries as an inspiration and not as a hindrance. The inspiration that other Latin American countries gave to them introduced more motivation to pursue a more intense and passionate playing style. The burning desire to win inside them keeps the team on track.

From 1930 up to the present, they played 18 times in all World Cup matches without winning a single cup but despite all of this, the Mexican team continues to sharpen their abilities and playing skills and it is slowly gaining momentum now.

The soccer popularity in Mexico is spreading more and more everyday. This status can be apparently seen in the streets, that become more and more crowded of children and adults alike busy of dribbling or playing soccer games.

Mexican soccer greats Horacio Casarin, the Rosas duo, Manuel and Felipe and Enrique Borja were the driving force behind the Mexican soccer team. These legendary players served as an inspiration to the current roster of the Mexican team.
