Coaching Football Special Teams

Image : http://www.flickr.com

I called a friend of mine who is the Head Coach at a Big East Football team and we talked about how his football team coaches special teams., these are some of the comments made during that interview.

One of the first things they try to do is to let the kids know there are areas where we can achieve certain goals on special teams. Clearly the skilled players want to be on the special teams. They want to touch the football. But the question is how do you draw the interest of the other players on the special team who do not get to touch the football? How do you keep the left tackle on the extra point team interested? We came up with an award for the special team player of the year based on a point system. We went out and got the largest trophy we could find. It is about three-feet high. We wanted to get the biggest and gaudiest trophy we could find. We wanted our players to see the trophy every day. The trophy cost us about $100. The bang for our bucks came from the fact that we saw our kids change their attitude on how they could win the special teams player of the year. If you are going to emphasize something you must give the players a carrot, and we did that with the trophy.

In our team room we have three distinctive goals and the goals are displayed on banners. The banners are 12-feet wide by eight-feet tall. They are prominent in our team room. When you walk into our team room it is unmistakable that we have special team goals, offensive team goals, and defensive team goals.

Let me go over our special team goals

Win

Better than average field position after kickoff than opponent

Better net punt average than opponent

Score or set up a score

Give the offense the ball at least one time on the plus -50-yard line

Never give the opponent the ball on our side of the 50-yard line

Perfect execution on holds, snaps, and ball security

Have at least one game breaker - score, block a punt, block a kick, recover an onside kick, cause a turnover, recover a turnover, down a punt inside the 10-yard line, 60 yards of field position change

No penalties

Win the hidden-yardage game - kickoff - kickoff return - punt - punt return

First is to win. That is our first goal. The reason we try to stay away from numbers on the net punt average is the fact there are so many obstacles that may not allow us to achieve these goals.

If we get someone who kicks the ball in the end zone or there is a penalty after the kick, it can eschew the numbers relative to better kickoffs for the opponents. What we want is the average. The same thing is true with having a better punt return average than our opponents.

If you break down the film, you will find the special teams set up a lot of your scores. And a lot of the times the coaches do not even talk about that point. You do not build the creditability into your special teams. You tend to lose it in its perspective.

We want to give the ball to our offense at least one time on the plus 50-yard line.

There are several ways to make this happen. It could be by a punt, pressure, or on any of our kickoffs. We want our kids to understand what we want in this respect.

When we had all of the numbers as goals, such as getting the ball on the 25-yard line, or return the ball 25 yards, they do not remember those things.

On the other hand, we do not want to give our opponent the ball on our side of the ball.

We want to have perfect execution on all special team plays.

We want to have at least one game breaker.

The one point here that we think is big is to down a punt inside he 10-yard line. To us, that is a game breaker. If you do the job on defense you will probably set up a score or get into a potential scoring situation.

All of these are great goals. But the one goal that we work on more than any other is the last goal: win the hidden yardage game.

Let me categorize hidden yardage. Here we are talking about the kickoff, kickoff returns, punts, and punt returns.

We use the 25-yard line on kickoff returns and 35-yards net on punts and calculate the yards. Let me give you an example. If we have a team that kicks the ball out of the end zone on us, it means we would start the ball in play from the 20-yard line. This means we are at a minus 5 yards in hidden yards against our opponents. Conversely, if we had a kickoff that we returned to the 50-yard line, we would have a plus 25 yards on the hidden yardage.

We do the same thing on punts. We use 35 as the magic number.

If we had a punt that netted 50 yards, we would be plus 15 yards in the hidden yardage.

If you keep track of these hidden yards, you will find they make a difference in winning and losing.

Those numbers are going to come back to you better than some of the other numbers you may throw at your players when you put up your goals. You want to make sure when the players leave the meeting that they know what hidden yardage is. If you can get your players to understand hidden yardage, you are going to win a lot of battles.

We want to put some competitive goals into the special teams, so we came up with a point production chart.

On the chart we have team points and individual points. We feel it is important if you are on a particular team to have a chance to get points on the special teams.

Our long snapper came within four points of winning the award this year. Our left guard was in the top three for the special team award. So we have team points that we give out for punt and extra point as well as individual points. If you do not do this the skilled players will run away with the award.

TEAM POINTS - (10)

Score

Block a punt

Block a kick

Recover an onside kick

Successful fake

TEAM POINTS (3)

Stop a fake

Down a punt inside 10-yard line

TEAM POINTS (2)

Kickoff return of plus 30 yards

Punt return of plus 10 yards

INDIVIDUAL POINTS (10)

Cause a turnover

Recover a turnover

60-yard field position change

INDIVIDUAL POINTS (5)

Game winning field goal

Involved in 15 or more plays

INDIVIDUAL POINTS (3)

De-cleater

Tackle

Key block on return

Exceptional effort

4.0 hang time on kickoff or touchback

4.5 hand time on punt or 40-yards net with fair catch

INDIVIDUAL POINTS (2)

Assisted tackle

INDIVIDUAL POINT (1)

Doing your job on every play on a special team Victory award.

The coach who is responsible for that particular team grades the film. There is some flexibility in the system and we do have minus points. If you get a penalty you get minus 5 points. On any missed assignment you receive minus 5 points. The kids are going to see the chart on Sunday. That is the first thing we talk about in our team meeting.

We have the chart in our team room. You can see how we chart the players each week. On the left-hand side of the chart we have all of the players listed. We grade the film and give the players the points they earn in each area. On the left side of the chart are the team points and on the right side of the chart are the individual points. Also on the right outside of the chart we have the players' total points for the last game.

I think it is important to have this information displayed in the locker room so the kids can see how they are being graded on the special teams. We are trying to build some ownership in this team. This chart will help you build your case for special teams.

We have another chart where we keep a running total of all the games. Each week the kids can see where they rate on the chart. They can come into our meeting knowing they earned a certain number of points from the last game or knowing they lost a certain number of points. We think the chart is good because the kids can see where they stand game by game.

This system really works for us. It keeps our kids motivated each week about the ranking for winning the special teams trophy!

City Failed to Reach the 4th

Manchester City failed to rise to number four while the Premier League standings, on Sunday (25 / 4). The Citizens only played a goalless draw against a strong team, Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium.

Seizing the fourth English Premier League this season is no less exciting with the seizure of the first position. Chelsea and Manchester United took turns filling the top positions in the last three weeks this season. Fourth place or last place to get into next season's Champions League zone contested by Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

Manchester United's game this week to temporarily pushed into the top position after beating Spurs 3-1. The result is an opportunity for Roberto Mancini's squad to be able to shift from the safe zone Hotspur Champions League with a requirement to pick full points from Arsenal at the Emirates today

However, it seems luck has not sided with the city. The Gunners are still too strong to be conquered, let alone play at own game. Can hold 0-0 draw with Arsene Wengar team has been a fair enough result for the club, who recently was suddenly rich. Facing the team that stuck in third place this time, Man. City can not do more in the game today. Because, in the first round Carlos Teves et al. never bother goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski. This situation caused most of the City players busy doing defense and difficulties to build a dangerous counter attack.

In the second half after Emmanuel Adebayor enter The Citizen occasionally can be done to pressure Arsenal. However, the host did not loosen the attack, especially when substitute Nicklas Bendtner Theo Walcott signed. Strikes, strikes Gunners far more dangerous in front of goal City. Swift pressure to City defense. City, forcing Shay Given had to fall up to secure post.

As a result, minute-76 goalkeeper was no longer able to continue the match due to injury in his shoulder after a hard kick to block the release Abou Diaby. Gunnar Neilsen Given that replaces the task may look good with an opportunity to confront all Arsenal until the game ended.

The draw makes Manchester City remains stuck in fifth position achieve standings with one point in three games left this season. While more difficult to shake Arsenal in third place despite the Premier League title chances have been closed.

How To Become A Professional Soccer Player

So you want to be a soccer star? Well there's a few things you need to know. First, you have to have the right shoes. It is a fact that a pair of lightweight, well designed shoes can improve your performance a lot. Also, keep yourself up to date on all the latest soccer news and tips by reading hot soccer magazines. Another important thing to do is to train with players that have a high enough skill level to challenge your skills and make you improve. Good teams and clubs can be found at high schools and university and of course at the community, city or provincial level.

In order to play well, you also have to be trained in strength training and endurance training. This is why it is not a bad idea for a team to have a general fitness trainer along with the regular soccer coach. Great excercises include pushups for the chest, situps and sprinting for the abdomenal muscles, and squats for the thighs. By spending time on individual soccer skills and perfecting them, you can improve your performance during a game a lot. The diet is also very important. Keep away from too many foods that are high in sugar, eat a lot protein, and get your fruits and vegetables.

And last but not least stay focused and dedicated mentally and make sure you love the game so you can score a GOOOOOAAAAALLLLL!

I Want to Start an Auto Dealer and Car Lot Cleaning Business

If you like cars would like to start a business that has something to do with automobiles perhaps you will consider cleaning off the cars at new car lots. There are many benefits to this if you like automobiles because you will see all the latest models and wash all the nicest cars.

Perhaps you have seen mobile car wash companies at the car lots with their hoses out and high-pressure washers cleaning up all the cars? Generally these companies charge anywhere from 80 cents a car to upwards of 3 dollars depending on the number of cars on the lot and the amount of competition in the area.

To properly clean auto dealer lots you'll need a pressure washer of about 2500 PSI preferably with a Honda Motor and about 300 ft. of hose. It also makes sense to have a large water tank so you can clean the cars even when you're at the very corner of a lot where there is no water outlet.

Generally everyone in the auto dealer business talks to each other and many of the salesman will work at one car lot for a while and then go work for another car lot and this is how everyone gets to know everyone else in the business. This is of benefit to you if you run any mobile car wash specializing in cleaning dealer lots because you can use this to your advantage through asking for referrals. If you do one car lot and you do it very well the other car lots will notice that their cars are clear and they will want to hire you to keep up with the competition.

The more car lots to do right next to each other the more efficient you can operate and the lower the price you can afford charge and the more money you'll make. Cleaning car lots is not an easy business and it is a lot of hard work but there is a lot of work to be had and thus it makes a very good home business. Perhaps you'll consider this in 2006.

Youth Soccer Rules for the Beginner Coach

The Basic Rules

The following are some of the most commonly observed youth soccer rules, as dictated by the United States Youth Soccer Associations (USYSA) and the Federation Internationale de Football Association (FIFA). Remember that youth soccer rules can vary between leagues and age divisions, so always consult the local soccer authority for the final word on rules and regulations.

Each team is comprised of 11 players- 10 on the field and 1 in goal. According to youth soccer rules, a team is allowed a maximum of 3 substitutions during the match if it is part of an official competition. While all the players on the field must wear jerseys of the same color, the goalkeeper must wear a different colored jersey than their teammates and the referees. Most goalkeepers choose to wear a goalkeeping jersey, a pinnie or mesh training vest, or a t-shirt.

All players must wear shin guards both during practice and game play that must be covered with socks. Metal cleats are not permitted during youth soccer play. Only rubber cleats in the back of the shoe will be accepted.

A soccer match lasts 90 minutes, and is played in two halves. A team scores a goal when the entire ball has traveled across the goal line between the two posts and under the crossbar.

Hands Off

Arguably the most important rule in the game of soccer is that players are not allowed to use their hands or arms (from the tips of the finger to the shoulder) to move the ball while it is in play on the field. The sole exceptions to this rule are the goalkeepers. However, a goalkeeper may not use their hands on a pass that comes from one of their own teammates.

The 3 Kicks: Goal, Corner, and Penalty

When the ball is kicked out of bounds along one of the sidelines, a player from the opposite team gets to throw the ball onto the field at the point in which it went foul. Both feet must remain on the ground when throwing the ball in from the sidelines, and the throw must be executed overhead using both hands.

If the ball crosses the end line, a corner kick or goal kick is performed. If the offensive team was the last to touch the ball before it crossed the end line, then it is kicked in from any spot inside the goalkeeper's box, hence the name goal kick. Any player may execute the goal kick, not just the goalkeeper. If it was the defensive team that kicked the ball across the end line, it is kicked back into play from the corner nearest to where it left the field.

Penalty kicks are also a big part of youth soccer. If the defending team causes a contact foul or a hand ball within the penalty area, a penalty kick will be awarded to the offensive team. The ball is placed 12 yards away from the goal in the center, which is known as the penalty spot.

The goalkeeper must keep both feet on the goal line and all players must vacate the penalty area and remain outside until the ball is kicked. If a goal is not scored and the ball bounces back onto the field, it is still considered live, thus anyone can play it.

What You Need to Know Before You Buy New Soccer Shoes Or Cleats

So you need some new soccer shoes? Simple, or it should be, but with so much choice which ones do you go for? Remember, you can buy a great pair of cleats without spending a fortune, but it pays to do some research first. You might think that with such a huge variety of soccer cleats on the market that it's all about fashion, and whilst that certainly plays its part, there is much more to choosing the right cleats than just going for the same make and style as your favorite player.

If you are mainly playing your soccer on soft ground you should consider shoes with screw in studs. These have the advantage of providing high levels of grip, and are longer lasting. You can easily replace the studs when they wear, and you can buy studs or blades in different lengths to suit the conditions in which you are playing. The tip of the studs is often made of metal or very durable plastic and it is actually this part which is known as the 'cleat.'

If you are playing on harder surfaces, the preferred choice of soccer shoe is the firm ground type which generally have molded studs or cleats. Unlike traditional soccer boots, these do not have removable studs or blades. They provide great grip on medium hard surfaces (dry grass, for instance) and have become increasingly popular in recent years. Most major soccer shoe manufacturers now offer firm ground cleats in various styles.

If you play on very hard or artificial surfaces (such as astroturf) you should consider hard ground soccer shoes. These are easily identified by their closely molded studs which usually cover the entire sole of the shoe. Whilst they are great for hard surfaces or for playing on astroturf, hard ground boots should be avoided if you are play on softer surfaces as they will not generally provide sufficient grip.

The upper part of modern soccer shoes can be made from various materials. Some of the more expensive shoes have leather uppers, whilst less expensive varieties may be made of synthetic materials. Leather uppers will provide great comfort and are preferred by many players who appreciate the additional 'feel' on the ball that the softer surface provides. Leather soccer shoes often take some time to 'wear in', and many players prefer them to be a slightly tighter fit when new, knowing that they will quickly become more comfortable in use. Soccer cleats with leather uppers benefit from a little additional time spent in cleaning, but you don't need to treat them with dubbin, which was the traditional way of looking after your boots. Nowadays there are many sports shoe cleaners and conditioners which are much easier to use and will keep your new soccer shoes waterproof and in great shape.

The two most important factors in buying the right soccer shoes are the sole design and stud pattern and, of course, comfort. It is important to try several pairs of cleats before making your final choice. More expensive soccer shoes will likely be made of finer materials with additional styling features and they may also be slightly more comfortable when new, but if you are on a tight budget do not always discount soccer shoes which are cheaper. Most major manufacturers such as Nike, Reebok, Adidas, Umbro and Puma produce high quality cleats to suit all pockets. Before you play or train in your new boots, try wearing them around the house for a while to speed the break in process and remember to avoid concrete or other hard surfaces to minimise the wear on the studs or blades.

Good luck in buying your new cleats!

Selecting the Best Soccer Jersey to Support Your Team

So this is the time to support your favorite team when they play on the field. To show the support for your favorite team, you can buy the recent jersey of your favorite team or club.

The first option for buying a soccer jersey is to run unto your favorite store and get the latest jersey of your favorite team. But once you reach the shop and select the best soccer jersey that you need, you will definitely come across the price.

All soccer teams beginning with the local school, clubs, colleges and leagues will definitely have a jersey of their own. The teams also will have home and away jerseys. The jerseys used by the teams are made by famous brands like Adidas, Nike, Reebok or Puma. Such soccer can be found in any stores in the town. But the most unique and the best collection of soccer jerseys will be found at the stores that specifically sell uniforms. Such specialized soccer uniform shops sell the jerseys classified by brand, size, team and player.

You also have to be careful about the duplicate and low quality replicas of your favorite teams uniform. There will be a very vast difference I price between the original and duplicate ones. They will be very cheap compared to the branded ones. If you are not such a big fan of the team, it would be better if you buy the low price replicas. That will definitely be a better choice because you need not spend a fortune on a jersey that will be outdated by the end of the season.
Another option for selecting your favorite soccer jersey is to go online to buy the soccer uniforms. There are a lot of online stores selling soccer uniforms and apparels ant cheap and affordable prices. You can also blog comment and share information regarding the soccer uniforms with the millions of fans across the internet before you buy a soccer uniform of your own. You will also be updated about the latest trends in soccer jerseys from the internet.

In short, it would be very smart if you can find out the latest design and treads in the jersey before you buy them. You may also have to find the cheapest stores where your favorite teams soccer jerseys are available. Remember to get the uniform before they run out, because once you are in the soccer fever, the demand for soccer jerseys is too high that the soccer uniforms may even go on auctions.

The Best Play In Youth Football

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The answer may surprise you. Many youth football teams attempt to emulate what the coach has seen on TV the past week or what the head coach ran as a high school player 20 years ago. Unfortunately what works at the College or Pro level on TV often doesn't work very well at the youth level. The coach's high school system may have worked well for his team 20-30 years ago with 6 days a week practices and fleet running backs, but fails miserably at the youth level.

At the youth level our job as coaches is to teach the kids how to block and tackle safely and effectively. We teach them how to get into good athletic stances as well as the base rules and strategies. Our most important job should be to make football fun for the player and coach our teams up to their full potential.

However, you can have fun and win at the same time. In fact most players that play on perennial losing teams lose their love of the game and quit. That is one reason I developed these coaching materials for my own 400 kid organization, so that our coaches would be competent enough to coach the kids to their God given potential. To allow our teams to play competitively so the kids would stay engaged in our program. In fact my materials are filled with how to make practices both well organized and fun.

Most of the plays or schemes the typical youth coach has in his playbook are not designed to the talent level of most youth teams. I see teams with no speed often trying to run sweeps, I see teams with kids that can't throw or catch throwing (trying to throw) 20 yard passes. I see teams running bootlegs with very slow quarterbacks. I see teams running a dive play with no lead blocker into the heart of youth defenses. I see teams trying reverses against well disciplined teams for huge losses. I see pass patterns with 3-4 and even 5 receivers. I see teams trying to get a 9 year old to read two different defenders on option plays etc etc etc.

I rarely see: good lead off-tackle plays, one or two receiver pass patterns, optional run and pass plays, trap plays, pulling, double teams, wedge blocking, designed plays to draw the defense off-sides, unbalanced formations, motion, and great sportsmanship.
In youth football each year is different; you will not always have a big team or have a very fast "feature back" that can outrun everyone on a sweep play. Unlike the colleges or pros, you don't have 100s of kids from all across the country to choose from or 20-40 hours a week practice time. In my mind the team that wins because they just happen to have the fastest kid in the league and he outruns everyone on sweeps and kick returns is a joke, a luck of the draw thing. Football is a team game and a well coached team won't give up sweeps for touchdowns or ever kick deep ti that speedster. My first team defense has not given up a sweep for a score in over 5 years.

I've coached youth football for about 15 years and one play that we have always been able to run effectively regardless of the size or talent of the team I've had is the lead
off-tackle power. It can be run by out of nearly any formation, I love it out of the Single Wing with 4 lead blockers and a double team block at the point of attack. While it isn't a terribly sexy play, it gets you 4-5 yards every down in most cases and sets up "home run" complementary plays like the trap, play action pass or wing reverse. Most youth teams are set up to stop the sweep, the "holy grail" play for most youth teams. Other defenses try to shut down the "dive" in the gaps next to the center. Very few youth football defenses are set up to stop even an average off-tackle play.

If the other team gives you the off-tackle, take it until they over-commit, then run the home run play. In our Championship game in 2003 the other team was so concerned about taking away our inside "wedge" play, they left open the off-tackle. We started the game with 7 straight tailback off-tackle plays to our strong side and scored. The very next series they moved out to our off-tackle hole and we ran wedge for a 65 yard score on first down. Then they tried to stop the wedge play and moved everyone up and we ran the wedge play action pass for a 60 yard score. We were up 46-0 in the third quarter when they finally just gave up and tried to run the clock. Both the wedge and off tackle plays can be run well by very average skilled kids.

In another game the defensive team was set up to stop the sweep and wedge plays but again were giving us the off-tackle play. We run no-huddle so we get many more snaps in than most youth teams. In that game we had 71 snaps, of which 51 were off-tackle strong plays. We were getting our 4-5 yards every time, nothing real big, but we did get some very big gains and touchdowns from blocking back traps, wing reverses (2 TDs) and TB run pass option (pass for TD). So we scored 5 touchdowns and out of the 5 TD's, 4 were in excess of 20 yards. We were only stopped on downs once and we fumbled once too. We were 2-2 passing for 56 yards and a TD. Now how much fun was that for our 3 tailbacks that shared duty at the tailback position that day and for our pulling guards? They all had a blast, so did our place kickers, and the 4 other kids that had TDs playing non-tailback positions. Oh yeah, our defense had fun too, they could play with abandon since we were moving the ball at will on offense.

The net is, the off-tackle play at the youth level is the hardest play to stop, yet few teams try and perfect it. It takes little talent to run the play, no studs required. In my Single Wing Offense, we practice that play more than any other. We block it a variety of ways so we know it will work and we will run it, regardless of what kind of defense we face. Our kids can run the off-tackle in their sleep, we often start our practices with the "Power Hour" as Steve Calande calls it. We run our off-tackle strong power for 30-40 minutes on air, fit and freeze and then with players holding hand shields going 100%. Ye,s just one play often makes up half of our offensive practice time.

If your team is doing poorly, you don't need a trick play or new offense (what most coaches panic and do) you need to get perfect at running the off-tackle lead power play.
We know we are playing a good team when they come out and try and establish the
off-tackle play. Of all the videos I've seen from youth teams from all over the country, regardless of the offensive set or personnel, the best teams always have a good off-tackle play. It isn't sexy but it does the trick and it sets up everything else in your offense.

Don't worry about putting in a bunch of fancy "trick" plays before you get your off-tackle play down perfectly.

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Like America, South Africa has a West Coast and an East Coast, with a lot of stunning country in between! East coast radio, or ECR as it's known, streams to the internet, so wherever you are you can listen to it to get a feel for what's going on in South Africa. (Remember local web sites are .co.za, not.com)

But this article is about scenery, and places to see that are really worth the trip. There's the Sani Pass, Table Mountain in Cape Town, The Namib desert, The Tugela valley, The Drakensberg mountains, the Tsitsikama forests in the Cape, Storms river bridge bungee site, ancient bushman paintings, Dungeons big wave venue, Botanical gardens in every city, and the wide, wide open spaces of the Northern Cape, where you don't even get radio coverage.

Yes, South Africa has a bit of everything. Places where it snows, places where it never snows. Places where it rains all the time, and places where it almost never rains. We have first world cities, and wild areas where the people are still almost unchanged over centuries. We have long, beautiful beaches, rocky coasts, caves and waterfalls falling directly into the sea. We have an area called the "Wild Coast" which is really wild. But we also have five star and seven star lodges where luxury is the word.

With the current exchange rate, it really pays to visit South Africa. A four star hotel on the Durban beachfront will cost you about 900 rand a night, which in US$ is about $200 a night. Self catering 3 bedroom apartments right on the beach at Balitto on the East Coast can be hired for as little as 700 rand a day, or US$90 a day. If you're not fussy, lower prices can be had for less salubrious lodgings.

And the weather, the glorious weather. It's not too hot, and not too cold. We have some low temperatures at night inland, like at Johannesburg, and we have the odd few days when cold fronts come over, but most of the days are sunny and warm. Durban can get quite hot in December to February, but then the sea is right there to cool off in, and you never need a jersey in Durban! Well, almost never!

Is it worth the trip? You bet!

The Number of English Players in Premiership Football

In recent years, a trend has developed where overseas players have become a more cost effective option for English football clubs compared to signing home grown talent. This has led to an influx of foreign players into English football that has affected all four professional divisions.

The number of English players in premiership football has continued to fall significantly every year. The outstanding overseas players who play for premiership clubs surely improve the overall standard of football that is played in England. There is an argument that many foreign players of an average standard do not raise performance or skill levels. In some cases this can have an adverse effect.

Many years ago clubs invested heavily in creating football academies that were designed to nurture young talent. The concern within football circles is that too many foreign players of moderate ability will prevent our own youngsters from developing into professional footballers. This can lead to the appearances of home grown players to be restricted.

Some experts believe that accommodating too many players from overseas may also have a harmful effect on the national side. This particular argument always rears its head whenever England suffers poor results or disappointing tournaments.

There has been much debate on the possible introduction of a quota system that would limit the number of foreign players able to play in each game. This rule would ensure that a certain number of English players would play. There is also the option of a rule that would insist on the inclusion of a certain number of players from the United Kingdom which would include players from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Whether these rules would be legal is not clear at this stage.

Premiership football could point to the fact that large sums of money have been invested in signing overseas talent. Some clubs claim that English players of comparable quality are often priced out of their reach because they are in such short supply which feeds the trend of using the overseas transfer market in search of value for money.

Different Kinds of Sports Display Cases

Sports display cases are used to help sports fans better organize their precious sports memorabilia. Instead of storing away their tickets, jerseys, sport cards, and more in boxes, they can display their items in cases that both they and others can look at and enjoy.

There are different types of sports display cases available. These include jersey frames, cube display cases, wall cases that are sport-specific, and collectible card cases. Each one of these will be discussed in detail below.

To begin, jerseys worn by football, baseball, hockey, or basketball teams make for very popular sports collectibles. If a sports lover is lucky enough to have a jersey signed by his or her favorite player, then he or she will most likely want to display it instead of wear it. Jersey frames are free of dust, can be locked, and may even have UV protection on an acrylic front to protect the jersey from sun damage and fading. The jersey can be displayed along with photos, ticket stubs, and more.

Cube display cases are also available to display sports memorabilia. These cases are perfect for displaying balls such as basketballs, soccer balls, and footballs, as such items can not be placed in a wall case. Display cases meant for tabletops are perfect for memorabilia that have odd shapes. On top of big balls, such cases are great for baseball mitts, football helmets, baseballs, and more. Quality cube cases should have velvet bottoms on a base made out of hardwood and glass that is shatter-resistant on the sides and top.

There are also wall cases that are sports specific. For example, a person who has ten signed baseballs can display them in a case that is baseball specific. There are also special cases for hockey pucks, baseball bats, golf balls, golf clubs, and more. There are wall-mounted cases for baseball shaped like a home base that can hold an astounding forty or more baseballs, depending on the size of the case chosen.

Collectible card cases also exist to display cards from baseball, basketball, football, and more. Instead of tucking cards away in books and boxes, people display them in cases and actually get to enjoy the cards. Another benefit of using a locked card case is that the cards will be safe from curious children and overall damage. It is well worth the investment.

In terms of where to find display case for sports collectible items, the main sources are online or retail sports speciality shops. There are many great deals to be found over the Internet, though a person should visit a lot of sites and compare prices before purchasing a case. Furthermore, it would be best to see if there are reviews available from other people who have purchased display cases from the retailers, as the buyer is not going to have the opportunity to see the case(es) before hand.

In conclusion, sports display cases house sports memorabilia for football, baseball, basketball, golf, hockey, and other fans. There are many types available, including but not limited to jersey frames, cube display cases, wall cases that are sport-specific, and collectible card cases. These cases can be purchased online or at sports retail shops. Many deals can be found over the Internet, though people should take care to compare prices and do their research when buying a display case for sports items online.

IT Consultant Image: Are You Professional?

Image : http://www.flickr.com

As an IT consultant, your jobs will be as variable as your client's attitudes and expectations. Your customers' observations about your level of professionalism will have a profound impact on your career. A successful IT consultant has strong ethical standards, care for his personal appearance and conduct and will present this image clearly in printed materials.

Ethics

As an IT consultant, you have to be true to your values, and this means being honest and up-front with your clients. You need to finish projects in a timely manner and stand behind your work in order to be perceived as professional. Your personality should ideally match that of your clients. If you like to work in informal settings and your client has a very formal company atmosphere, you might run into long-term projects. You might have to occasionally adjust your style a little, but you should still be genuine.

Personal Appearance and Behavior

As an IT consultant, you are in a very people-oriented field, and the way others see you is important. Therefore, you should dress neatly and appropriately for all jobs. If a client's office is informal, you can wear casual attire, but if your client works in an atmosphere of suits, you should up the ante.

Communicating professionally with others is essential, including during phone conversations. You should respond to phone messages on time and always indicate the reason for your call and an appropriate time to return it when you leave voice messages. This will help the client know he is important.

Your Image In Print

All printed materials, including proposals and brochures should reflect a sense of professionalism. An IT consultant can lure clients and drive them away through his written material, and are often a first impression of your company. Decide on a consistent image from the very beginning. Similarly, your printed materials and of course your website should be without spelling or grammatical errors and easy to understand and navigate.

Choosing The Right New Balance Shoes

Every single person's body and feet are different. So finding the right shoe for any person means meeting their individual needs. It is important that body type, foot shape, activity, and any problems or ailments be taken into consideration when choosing a pair.

One must account for heel and forefoot widths as well as instep, toe box, and arch heights. To meet these needs, New Balance has developed different relative foot models (or "lasts") for men, women and kids. Lasts are represented by short alphanumeric codes, like "SL-1" for example. "SL" standing for "Straight Last" and "1" the type Identifier. The definition of an SL-1, their most common last, is a standard heel width, standard forefoot width, standard instep height, and standard toe box height.

Size and width measurements for New Balance shoes correspond to the widely-used Brannock Device measurements. For men's shoes, the "D" width is usually the same thing as a regular or medium width. However if you are talking about women's shoes, the "D" width is usually considered a wide width, while a "B" width would be the women's medium or regular width. If you do not know your usual size and width, it is strongly recommended you visit a local shoe store to be properly sized.

Then you should decide your primary use of this footwear. While there are some sneakers out there that seem to serve just about every purpose fairly well, certain activities require specific levels of support, stability, cushioning and traction. With that in mind, the best shoe is going to be the one that best meets the needs of your activity. With running shoes, walking shoes, cross-training shoes, basketball shoes, and tennis shoes, it can be difficult when trying to decide which type is best for your needs. However, there are some basic differences which can help you understand and usually hold true for all shoes.

A traditional basic running shoe design supports and encourages forward motion. You can expect a higher heel and lower flexible forefoot with roll-up toe. A decent running shoe will always have plenty of dense, yet responsive heel cushioning and the better ones include it also in the forefoot or even throughout the full-length of the sole. They provide the perfect foot support for fast, forward-rocking movement.

These days, New Balance running shoes have become incredibly specialized and there is usually a match suitable for any unique set of needs you can imagine. Online stores like New Balance North Shore categorize the men's running shoes as well as the women's running shoes, allowing you to shop easily through the various styles:

Motion control running shoes offer maximum stability to control over-pronation. They are best for runners with a heavier stature, flat fleet, weak ankles, fallen arches or general stability problems.

Stability running shoes combine a moderate level of stability and cushioning. They are suitable for most runners with medium-to-low arches.

Cushioned running shoes (sometimes called neutral-cushioning shoes) offer maximum cushioning and shock absorption, with less support and stability. They are best for lighter runners with neutral gaits and without stability or arch problems.

Lightweight running shoes are constructed to be especially light for racing and speed training. These are best for competitive runners with neutral gaits.

Trail running shoes offer a more aggressive outsole tread for better traction and some models also offer a solid-plate in the midsole to protect your feet from the shock of sharp surfaces.

Similar to running shoes, walking shoes are designed for forward motion but not as much speed. So unlike the running shoes, these will keep your heel and forefoot more evenly transitioned or simply put, more flat. Also, you can normally expect a less-dense cushioning than in running shoes, which is more responsive to the lighter pressure of walking.

Tennis and basketball shoes are similar in that they are specifically designed to support the foot and body through strenuous lateral (side-to-side) movements. You can expect durable leathers, more rigid shoe-sidewalls and some higher-cut styles which offer additional ankle support as well.

As the name might suggest, cross-training shoes are meant for a little bit of everything. Go to the gym, do some aerobics or run a couple miles, cross-trainers can serve well. They generally offer more lateral support than running/walking shoes-- like a tennis or basketball shoe, but at the same time are typically too rigid and supportive for the long runs or all day comfort you might get out of a running or walking shoe.

So the next time you're in the market for New Balance shoes, remember that combining the right style, shape, length, width and shoe technologies will ensure your feet get the support they need and the comfort you demand.

University of Miami Football Program

Image : http://www.flickr.com

The University of Miami, located in Coral Cables, Florida, was founded in 1925 and for the majority of its existence had a predominately dormant football program. The modern success of the University of Miami football team that has come about in the last thirty years is largely credited with beginning during the Howard Schnellenberger era. Mr. Schnellenberger left the Miami Dolphins (NFL franchise) coaching staff to become the University of Miami head football coach from 1979-1983. It was during this time that Coach Schnellenberger turned around the football program at what had previously been considered a relatively small private college (9,800 undergraduate students) without much of a chance to win against the established football powerhouses.

With the school nickname the Hurricanes the football program eventually came to fruition over the last thirty years having captured national titles in 1983, 1987, 1989, 1991, and 2001. In addition to five national titles to its credit (fourth on the all-time list behind Oklahoma, Alabama, and Notre Dame) the Hurricanes have twice had players win the prestigious Heisman Trophy award that is awarded on an annual basis to the nation's top college football player. The two winners to come from the University of Miami are Vinny Testaverde, a quarterback from the class of 1986, and Gino Torretta, the quarterback of the 1992 squad.

While national championships and Heisman Trophy winners are certainly key components of the resume of any football powerhouse dominating opponents on a weekly basis can also speak volumes about the overall success of a program. The University of Miami is proud to hold the NCAA record for the most consecutive home victories which stands at a staggering 58 straight games. This streak lasted nearly a decade as it encapsulated seasons from 1985 to 1994.

A fourth way to measure collegiate football success other than national championships, Heismen Trophy winners, and consecutive win streaks is to analyze the future success of the players that come out of a program. In terms of influence on the National Football League (NFL) the University of Miami has established high water marks both in terms of holding records for having the most players selected in the first round of a single draft (six players selected in the first round of the 2006 draft) as well as the record setting mark for having a player from the same school selected in the first round of the most consecutive drafts (fourteen: 1995-2008). While the streak of first round draft picks was snapped in 2009 the string of consecutive years of having a player drafted continues with a streak of thirty years which dates back to the 1974 draft.

Clearly, almost any way an individual chooses to analyze it the University of Miami Hurricane football program reveals a level of success which nearly every similar institution is envious.

Defensive Backs Football Training - Stripping the Football

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Today we are seeing more defensive backs stripping the football from receivers. It has become a football skill unto itself, requiring corners, line backers and safeties training and practicing drills to hone their ball stripping football skills.

More coaches are teaching the art of stripping the football, running practice drills with the defensive players, teaching them how stripping the football is done. A stripped football, is a down used, with no gain. When the defenders are successful at stripping the football from the receiver, the ball comes out. Giving the defensive unit an opportunity for a possible take-away.

More often than not D-backs are not in position to bat the ball down, leaving them two options; make the tackle or stripping the football.

Training the D-Back for stripping the football requires two basic sets of football skills. Mental and physical training are the essential football skills needed to be successful at stripping the football.

Football Skills for Stripping the Football:

Football skills for stripping the football begin with the proper mind set and attitude. The defender must approach the receiver with his mind set that he is going to strip the football from the receiver's hands. In order to be successful at stripping the football from the receiver, the back must first understand the fundamentals of catching the pass.

Learning the pass catching mechanics are essential and can be achieved by studying DVDs and videos dedicated to teaching pass catching football skills.

The defensive player will learn the basic positions a receiver may hold his hands prior to making the catch. If the ball is in front of the receiver are his hands above or below the shoulder pads, if behind the receiver are his hands above or below the shoulder pad, is the receivers back to the defender. These are important football skills defensive backs need to develop.

Next, the D-Backs training should show them which arm to attack. If the ball is thrown over the receivers left shoulder, the left arm is the point of attack, just as if the ball arrives over the receivers right shoulder, attack the right arm. In each case if the ball is caught going over the left shoulder, the defensive back uses his left arm to attack and if the ball is over the right shoulder he attacks using his right arm.

Practice Drills for Stripping the Football:

The first ball stripping practice drill should start with the receiver and the defender being stationary. In some parlances this defensive back practice drill is called a reach-and-pull.

The " reach-and-pull' technique is where the receiver stands back to the defensive back holding the ball on either side, the defensive back reaches out (left arm to left arm, right arm to right arm) and pulls the arm holding the ball downward stripping the football from the receiver.

Next is a walk through practice drill followed by running the stripping the football drill.

Ball stripping practice drills should be run about 3/4s speed and should not be exercised as a full contact practice. The focus of the drill, is to give the defensive back training on how to successfully strip the football from the receiver. Which arm the defensive back should attack and the football skills needed to strip the football from the receiver's hands.

In this drill the receiver and defensive back typically face the sideline, the defensive back about 10 yards away from the receiver. At the coaches signal the receiver starts running about 3/4s speed directly towards the side line. The defensive back takes off angling towards the point where he will intersect with the receiver as the ball arrives.

Once the receiver has run a few yards the coach throws him the football. The defensive back if he has timed his run and has taken the proper angle should be at the receiver the same time the ball arrives.

Using his attack arm the defensive back should be reach out and pulling the ball carrying arm down, dislodging the football. With his other arm, he should be hitting the receiver in the back with his fore arm and grabbing a hand full of jersey. Then if the defensive back is not able to dislodge the ball he is in position to make the tackle.

Who ever is throwing the ball to the receiver must throw the ball behind, high, low, left and to the right of the receiver giving the defensive back training on all the angles passes are caught.

In conclusion stripping the football requires both physical and mental football skills. Knowing which arm to attack, which arm to attack with and being able gage where the ball and receiver will meet and intersect with them all the while running at full speed.

A defensive back good at stripping the football doesn't happen by luck, it takes diligence and a strong practice work ethic.

College Football Betting Tips - How to Consistently Pick the Winning Team

Image : http://www.flickr.com

College football is considered to be one of the games least touched by dishonesty, because every player is there to play for the pride of the school and nothing else. As there is no money involved for the players they are playing only for their future careers perhaps in the NFL.

The Teams

As there are no salaries involved schools can sign the top players in the country, in fact, a recent report showing the top high school possible recruits revealed that a strong majority had U.S.C. and Texas on their list of college choices - good players want to play at a good school. The problem is that the better teams just keep getting better with the pick of the top players whilst the less fortunate teams struggle to attract the players they need this limits the number of real challengers in this sports arena.

Betting On College Football

As we stated earlier school football is less restricted than the professional game, As a result coaches will try different plays and combinations - this often results in high scoring games. That is why the person betting on college football should not make the mistake of thinking of the odds in terms of the NFL, no matter how weak an NFL player seems they will still be one of the top players in the football world. This is not the case in the amateurs where only a handful of players can hope to be good enough for the NFL. That is why the scores can vary so widely, much more than in the professional game.

The Underdog Effect

Rivalry is hot between schools, meaning that when 2 teams with history meet all bets should be off as no matter what talent is available or how it looks on paper the contest could be close just from the rivalry, we can see throughout the history of college football that the favorite to win can fall to a less talented team who just wanted it that bit more.

Coaches

When betting on football it is important to analyze the coaches as well, will the coach adapt his game plan depending on how the game plays out? Does the coach like to fire away even when the game is won? Knowing these things will give you the edge when it comes to selecting your betting

In Summary

To be a consistent winner when playing the betting game you must understand the differences between the NFL and college football, it sounds simple but many people forget this simple lesson to their detriment. Apply these rules and observations when betting on the school games and you can join the ranks of the successful sports gamblers enjoying the fruits of the college game - Enjoy your gambling and always gamble responsibly.

The Nike Edge in Sports Apparel

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Sports apparel from Nike seems to be the most popular around. They provide not only fashionable apparel choices but also garments designed to provide comfort and fit all the time. But the most popular of Nike's line of sports apparel are the shoes, particularly used in running.

Apart from shoes Nike also offers a selection of comfortable quality sports apparel. There are sports training apparel available that always ensure quality performance and comfort even at the most demanding conditions. Most shirts and upper training apparel from Nike features the Dri-FIT which is a high performance micro-fiber polyester fabric which offers ultimate comfort to the wearer by pulling perspiration away from the body from the body and directs it to the outer fabric surface where it evaporates and maintains the dry and cool effect of the wearer. Sports apparel made of this fabric will be the only garment that you will need on hot days and can be used as the primary garment layer during cold days.

Nike running shoes have become popular because it is the favored exercise program being followed by most people. Running has provided both excellent exercise and stress relief for most people. In order to get the most out of the sport in terms of fitness and comfort, it's important to have the right running gear that Nike can provide. Most of its shoes employ much technology and research into its manufacture.

A typical pair of Nike shoes can help minimize the brutal forces of every downward impact during running that can wreak some damage to the feet. Nike has instituted an innovative cushioning system specially designed to cushion and provide maximum impact protection while running.

Having the proper running gear should include everything from the right running shoes that you use down to the running apparel that you wear. Most important is that you find the right running shoe that will be able to provide you with the maximum impact protection. Comfort as well as fit also will need to be considered. Different shoes are required with different kinds foot shapes.

You would require different comfort if you have normal, low or high arches. For normal arches, you can look for running shoes that provide stability as well as good cushioning. Runners with low arches would require you to look for motion control shoes that have firm mid-soles to offer greater stability. For those with high arches, they should opt for shoes that offer plenty of cushioning.

How to Choose Proper Soccer Cleats

In career of any professional or amateur soccer player, performance on the field is key factor to success. Good performance is depending on many factors. It depends on player's mental and physical straight but also depends on the good footwear. This was recognized in early days of soccer, and that is how the soccer cleats were found.

It is very important, especially for a young player to learn proper usage of soccer cleats. Because, even serious injuries can occur with wrong choice and usage of cleats. Most common injuries caused by wrong choice of cleats are on the ligaments, knees and ankles. Also not that serious but still very uncomfortable injury caused by wrong cleats is blisters on the feet.

Each type of cleats is made for different type of ground. If ground is hard than usage of cleats with rubber studs is recommended because then they don't need to penetrate too much into the ground as the ground is not slippery. On the other hand, if soccer ground is too soft, then you need to use soccer cleats with higher studs, usually made from aluminum, because they are penetrating more into the ground.

Studs on the soccer clears can be fixed or removable. Soccer cleats with removable studs are still more popular among the players because you are using the same boots and changing only studs for different type of ground that you playing on.

But still for younger players is recommended to use fixed (molded) cleats. You can play with them on almost all ground types, and in all weather condition.

Triple Option Football Explained

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Triple option football has all three elements of the different styles of running attacks - quickness, finesse and power.

Homer Rice is given credit for inventing triple option football. He retired as Georgia Tech's athletic director in 1997. Before that, he was head coach at Kentucky, Oklahoma, Cincinnati and Rice. Mr. Rice also worked as athletic director at Rice and North Carolina as well as a brief stint as head coach of the Cincinnati Bengals.

But it was when he was coaching high school in the 1950's that he came up with triple option football. The two usual triple option styles are the wishbone and veer.

The main idea behind this offensive set is to leave the defensive tackle and end unblocked in order to double-team the linebackers with extra offensive lineman. This brings an element of power to this basically finesse type of running attack.

The "Wishbone" style of triple option football gets its name from the alignment of the backs. You have a quarterback, a fullback directly behind him and then two halfbacks split behind the fullback. At the snap, the quarterback turns and puts the football in the fullback's gut as he reads the defensive tackle.

If the QB sees the tackle taking outside responsibility, he hands off to the fullback. If the tackle takes inside position, the QB keeps the ball and the fullback blocks the tackle. Now the quarterback's attention turns to the defensive end. If the end comes in to tackle him, he pitches out to the halfback who is trailing behind the play.

The quarterback has much responsibility in triple option football. He must first make sure there is no confusion with his first option (whether to handoff to the fullback or not) in order to prevent a fumble. He must also make a good pitchout to his halfback. Further complications can arise if the QB makes the wrong read on the defensive tackle or end.

Here's one way to teach the quarterback to read the end - If he can see the end's number, he should pitch the football as the end is probably coming in to tackle him. If he sees the end coming across the line of scrimmage focusing on the halfback, the QB should keep the ball. The quarterback should also keep an out for further pitch opportunities to his halfback even as he's making his way downfield.

The "Veer" style of triple option football adds a passing element. Bill Yeoman invented the veer in 1965 as coach of the Houston Cougars. That's why you'll hear it also called the "Houston Veer". Yeoman replaced the fullback with a wide receiver and split out an end.

Now the QB's first option is to a diving halfback (no fullback). The pitchout option then goes to the other halfback in the set. The tight end helps get the defensive end wide by taking a wide split. At the snap, the tight end arcs around the end (remember, the end is left unblocked) to block anyone trying to tackle the quarterback (usually a safety). The wide-out takes on the cornerback.

Looking for finesse, power and quickness? Try using triple option football.

calcium-ups

In modern soccer, performance is a key factor for professionals. This performance depends not only on his mental and physical shape, but also on good footwear. An essential part of the footwear is the soccer cleat, also known as studs. The soccer shoes are specially equipped with cleats that prevent players from slipping and assist in rapid changes of direction.

There are different types of cleats for the different sports, such as rugby cleats, baseball cleats, soccer cleats, cleats for track, etc. Most sports played on grass or dirt require the use of cleats for athlete's stability.

The difficulty to play soccer on different types of ground was recognized early on in the history of soccer. That meant that the sole of the soccer shoes needed to offer proper resistance or ground traction.

At first, metal tacks similar to those of engineers' boots were used. These metal tacks could be dangerous and their use was forbidden by Rule 13 of the FIFA regulations for the safety of the players. Eventually leather soccer cleats (or studs) replaced these tacks.

Soccer cleats are made of different materials and can be fixed or removable. The most common are the plastic cleats. This is so because shoes with plastic soles are simpler to make and usually cheaper than any other. Rubber soccer cleats, though, are usually softer than the plastic ones.

Both plastic and rubber soccer cleats are usually fixed to the sole of the soccer shoe. There are also aluminum soccer cleats, which are usually removable. These soccer cleats can be entirely aluminum or plastic with aluminum tips. Recently new cleat systems were devised to help distribute pressure across the boot. Incorporation of new polymer materials further strengthened the sports shoe as well as providing lightweight footwear.

Each type of soccer cleat is indicated for a different type of ground. Soft grounds usually are more slippery so one generally uses higher aluminum cleats that penetrate more deeply to avoid slipping. For firm grounds the soccer cleats are a bit lower, therefore plastic cleats are indicated.

Soccer cleats made of rubber should be used on hard grounds, as they are better for impact. On harder grounds the soccer cleats need not penetrate too deeply, as the ground isn't as slippery. The soccer cleats are usually higher on the heel and lower on the forefoot, as more weight is put on the heel.

Injuries related to the wrong use of the soccer cleats are quite common. These injuries are usually on the knees and ankles. The most common knee injuries caused by wrong choice of the cleats are those to the ligaments. With the use a high set of aluminum soccer cleats on firm or hard ground the injuries are most likely to occur. The ankle injuries are usually sprains. The wrong use soccer cleats can also cause blistering to the feet, giving them an uncomfortable feeling.

Many professional players still prefer the shoe with traditional soccer cleats arrangement, which provide no more protection to the player than the boots of yesteryear.

Changes to shoe design appear to be in response to demand from parents keen to reduce the number of injuries associated with the modern game. The use of the right soccer cleats according to the ground that the game is going to be played is a key factor to prevent blistering and injuries that can be serious.

Soccer players should set an example and use the right type of soccer Tunnel, and manufacturers should advise customers to use more than football.

Talking Soccer Drills - Trapping

Image : http://www.flickr.com

When we are talking soccer drills, there are various ways to enhance the trapping skills of the players. The coach must give his players an insight into each and every aspect associated with trapping.

Trapping helps the players stop the ball and keep it near his body within a safe distance. The player has to use various parts of his body for trapping the ball, but he cannot use his hands of course. Mainly, it is the foot, the thigh, and the chest that players use for trapping the ball.

Using The Foot

The coach must train the players to use their feet effectively to capture the ball. If you are coaching younger soccer players, you should train them to use the inside of the foot. Since the inside of the foot is the largest area of the foot, it will help them have better control of the ball.

However, if you are coaching older soccer players, you need to go for the advanced approach. You should train them to use the instep or top of the foot and both inside and outside of the foot for trapping. If the ball is uncontrollable and bouncing much higher, the players should use their shin and ankle to get control of the ball.

Using The Thigh

Using the thigh is another most effective method for trapping of ball. For this, the players should first come in front of the ball that is coming towards them. When the ball gets a bounce, you should stand on one foot and raise the thigh of the other foot to contact the ball.

As soon as the thigh meets the ball, instantly drop the knee so that the ball could stick to your thigh only. The coach must train the players how to continue dropping the knee until the ball rolls from the thigh to the feet.

Using The Chest

As you use thigh for trapping the ball, you can also use the chest the same way. However, of course, you will have to take a slightly different approach towards the ball this time. For this, the players should first come in front of the ball that is coming towards them and should push out the chest to contact the ball coming towards them.

However, you must note that we are talking soccer drills for trapping, using the chest may not be a good idea for younger players because in doing so, it is very likely that they will touch the ball with hand.

Common Skills For Football

Image : http://www.flickr.com

Some of the most basic skills needed when it comes to playing football are running, passing, catching, tackling and blocking. Aside from kicking, these are the most common skills used while playing the game. It takes years of practice and intense determination to really perfect these skills. Playing college football could be one reward, or if you are lucky you could even become good enough to play professionally.

Running and Catching can be the role of several different players, these players include the tight end, wide receiver, fullback, and running back. The tight end is a universal player with skills ranging from running and catching to blocking. A wide receivers main job is to run routes and catch. Fullbacks are only on the field during an "I" formation, they mainly block but can also catch, and a running backs main job is to advance the ball forward, occasionally catching passes.

Passing is another important basic skill, and is the main job of the Quarterback. Some skills they also need to possess are great arm strength, a good stance, body control and ball handling. When it comes to passing, good accuracy is sometimes better than arm strength. They need to be able to manage the field as well as the game. Focus is vital when it come to them passing because they have the opposing teams defensive line coming at them while they are trying to make the pass. They only have one attempt per down to complete the pass, so each play takes many skills to be able to do this.

When the ball is in the air the main person who will be doing the catching is the wide receiver. A defensive player can catch the ball if his skills are good enough. Whoever is doing the catching needs to be very fast in order to get to the position to catch the ball, and great hand-eye coordination is also needed. This is why the players in the positions dedicated to catching the ball are usually the fastest players on the field.

When it comes to blocking, this takes place on the offensive line and special teams. One thing that blockers need is a low center of gravity, this helps their stance and balance when they are engaging a block, so they do not fall over. Even if this is not your main position, when the ball is in play if you are not running a route you will probably be blocking. Tackling takes tremendous strength and force. This is probably the most physical part of the game. Speed, agility, and strength are essential when it come to tackling. They need to stop the ball from advancing, so they play a major role when they are on the field.

There is no skill that is more important than the next. Each player works very hard at perfecting the skills needed in the position they play, and even when they make it to the top, they never stop having to work on them. So the next time you sit down to watch a game, you'll be able to pick out which skills are being used to help your team score that touchdown.

How to Find the Right Running Shoe

Runners often tell horror stories of losing toenails after a long race. But it's not just runners that suffer from black toenails that eventually fall off. All kinds of athletes - whether professional athletes or weekend warriors - can find themselves with damaged toenails.

The problem is likely their shoes, according to Fareen Samji, a Canadian Certified Pedorthist. "Most people wear their shoes too narrow and too short for them," Samji says. "You want at least a quarter of an inch at the end of your longest toe.

"All manufacturers make shoes differently," she adds. "You're never going to be a size nine across the board. In some, you'll be a nine, in some you'll be a nine-and-a-half, and some you might even be an eight. It all depends on the manufacturer."

The way you walk also affects your shoe size. Someone who's a size seven might actually need a size eight because her foot flattens and elongates when she's walking, Samji says. That's why you really need to get expert advice when choosing the right footwear, whether you're looking for running shoes, athletic shoes or everyday footwear.

"You wouldn't go look at golf clubs and buy them right off the shelf," she says. "You'd have a golf pro look at your swing to determine if that's the right type of golf club for you."

The same thing goes for shoes, she adds. You shouldn't just grab shoes off the shelf, but instead, get an expert help you choose the right kind of shoe for your own unique needs. If you are in the market for new shoes, here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Not all shoes are created equal. All shoes are built on a "last," which is a three-dimensional model. But New Balance's last is very different from Nike's last, and that's why shoes from different manufacturers fit differently.

2. Style matters - but not the way you think it does. The style of shoe you buy will affect fit. A slip-on shoe might fit a bit bigger than a shoe with laces, even if they're from the same manufacturer.

3. Your gait is the key to the right fit. You shouldn't buy a pair of shoes without having an expert watch you walk. If no one watches you walk, there's no way anyone can know exactly what type of foot you have and what shoe is right for you.
